There are some terms that are commonly and will be indeed frquently used in Sony Modding..
It is better that you quickly grasp those terms because without them u cannot further go with modding.
SO , the common terms are :-
1) GDFS :-
GDFS is the phones “stash”, where all settings and calibration data is stored (this also goes for the firmwares IMEI-resource as well as the SIM locks). Similar to other brands use of NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random Access Memory).
Your phone’s GDFS is unique to your phone, this means when you think your phone’s GDFS is gone, don’t try to flash someone else’s GDFS, it will almost certainly kill the phone.
2) CID :-
CID is basically the protection system used on your phone, it determines the loaders used to break into it
Current CIDs in use by SE are 29/36/37/49/50/51/52/53
The most common CIDs are 36,49,51,52,53
CID53 is one of the most newest and can be modded by using jdflasher.
3) EROM
EROM stand for Erasable Read Only Memory. This is the base part of the software which isn’t flashed in normal update operations. It controls the flashing interface, the boot loader, etc
EROM Colour: EROM have different type’s of color & they defines what kind of phone you are using
RED Phones are typical retail phones.
BROWN phones are phones used in development and testing.
BLUE phones are the units that were assembled at the factory but never programmed with firmware/IMEI/GDFS & ETC…..
4) DB PLATFORM
PLATFORM is the hardware ‘chipset’ used in the mobile you own. DB2000, DB2010, DB2012, DB2020, DB3150 are the most common platforms, and DB2010 to DB2020 are supported by All flashing software. DB3150 can be moded but not in free many software and tools are under test to mod it in free. Now a day’s all new high end phone are coming under DB3150 platform
5) FIRMWARE
FIRMWARE is the ‘operating system’ of your phone, same like the OS of ya PC, it is divided into two parts; MAIN Firmware and FS (File System).
The FS contains the file system that we will need to change or to upload file that what is called moding , and the MAIN is the actual operating environment..
————————————————–
Now the basic thing that i’m going to explain are related to flashing or modding …
This will give in depth detail about all the small question you hav like what is Acoustics, Cam drive , Patchs & etc.
The phone is made to act in under a limit and with flashing/moding we take it to next level to the eXtreme.
For doing all this stuff you dont need to re-flash your firmware.
6) ACOUSTICS
These are the sound drivers for your phone, they control the parameters such as volume, clarity and noise reduction. Please note that DB2010 & DB2012 use APF acoustics, DB2020 use ZAPF acoustics, and DB3150s use XML acoustics which are still under testing as far as i know & now a days a new pnx5320[just like db] is used for w380 & w350 phone. Acoustics are not firmware/model dependent but are platform dependent
7) CAMERA AND DISPLAY DRIVERS
This drive’s are modded drive made and designed to make your phone act better & for more clarity. Cam drive can increase your cam clarity, color correction etc….
Display drive dont work on all cell phones, and it doesn’t make much difference also.
PATCHES
Patches allow for some extreme changes in how the phone works. They can change the user Interface, and security restrictions and a lot more things. Patches work by changing values in the firmware, and there are few patches that will write values outside of firmware, and these are the dangerous ones. Some CAN write to EROM but it’s usually mentioned in the patch. This is why it is recommended to unpatch all your patches before flashing a new MAIN. Patches are related to firmware. Misused or wrong patches can kill your phone.!!!!!!!
9) ELFPACKS / ELFS
What are elfs??
Elfs are standard unix binary executable files (like windows .exe).
Every program is distributed like independent file. It’s possible to run elf files on Sony
Ericsson phones.
These are small executables that use the phone’s ARM processor.
They can access many native functions of the phone that allow for some unique applications that cannot be developed on any other phone.
You will need the Elfpack and Elf Library patch for your specific phone and firmware, although the Elfs themselves are not dependent on anything, i.e, any Elf will run on any phone that has Elfpack and the necessary library functions.
If you problems running Elfs, it means that your library does not have the necessary function(s) used by that Elf. Different libraries are released for different phones, usually dependent on the maker of the elf, who attaches the function you need in the form of a VKP patch alongside the elf for your convinience. Installing Elfpack means that your SE can now get infected with viruses. Use trusted Elfs that are verified by many users.
10) GFX/SysGFX
Sysgfx is a patch that allows you to change the Graphic User Interface of your phone using images to replace elements in your User Interface. On DB2010 GFX uses HEX Code that are altered with FS of the phone. GFX are the actual images that you upload to your GFX directory.
On DB2020 models, images were converted to patches, SYSGFX patches. You actually replaced the original images; when you didn’t have enough space, you deleted unused images, all in the main firmware. But not too long ago, the DB2020 SYSGFX patch came out. With it, you can replace images as on DB2010.
11) Flash Theme/menu
Flash theme or menu are specially made for SE phone it use flash lite v1.1and only only Walkman series phone and in now a days new phone like K850i and all the new series of phones lik G,C & more
Flash theme changes the total look of your phone menu.
12) Walkman Skin/Media Player
Walkman Skin depend on the version of walkman also….as for walkman v.1 there can only be 1 skin at point but for v.2 & v.3 you can have as many as skin you want in your phone walkman skin are v.1 and media player skin are kind of same.
I have tried to make this post as simple as possible so that any one reading it can understand it easily….Still if there is any kind of confusion then I and the members of this blog are always there to help U..But please read everything carefully before u attempt to do anything new to ur phone or else u might indeed KILL UR PHONE !!!!!!……..
Thank You,
